IDV Solutions Helps U.S. DOT Maritime Administration Lead the Way into Touch Computing
IDV Solutions and the U.S. Maritime Administration today announced the launch of MarView, a touch-enabled web application that presents a cross section of data, such as seaports, airports, current weather, historic hurricanes, and nautical charts.

LANSING, MI, July 09, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- IDV Solutions, in collaboration with the U.S. Maritime Administration, today announced the launch of MarView, a touch-enabled web application and the first publicly accessible version of the MarView system used by the Maritime Administration and its many government constituents. MarView consists of an interactive map, timeline, and data sources that invite the user to explore some of the data sets used by the DoT and other government agencies in crisis response, situational awareness, and homeland security.

"We are very excited to launch this public facing application," explained Louis Effa, Program Manager for MarView at the Maritime Administration. "The touch interface is remarkable and gives the public a tremendous opportunity to engage the data in new and innovative ways. If you have an iPad, an iPhone, or other touch-enabled device you are going to want to see MarView."

MarView was built on Visual Fusion software from IDV Solutions, a long-standing partner with the Maritime Administration. Visual Fusion is used to quickly build business intelligence applications that unite disparate data into interactive web-based data visualizations (maps, timelines, and analytics) for superior context, rapid insight, and decisive action. IDV Solutions recently ported Visual Fusion interface components to HTML5 to enable touch computing for the product.

"More and more companies are adopting touch-enabled devices in the enterprise," commented Ian Clemens, IDV Solutions CTO. "Many of our customers are asking about an iPad version of Visual Fusion. MarView is another great example of the power of Visual Fusion, and the power of touch, when interacting with diverse data sources in the full context of location, time, and analytics. This is Business Intelligence 2.0 in the flesh, and the it's the future of the industry."

MarView leverages the power of Bing Maps for displaying all the interactive content in the context of location, in addition to the Visual Fusion timeline and data source controls. This public version of MarView presents a cross section of data, such as seaports, airports, current weather, historic hurricanes, and nautical charts. MarView also has a Silverlight counterpart to empower users when they are not using a touch-enabled device, and the application smartly determines which of the two versions of MarView to load based on the user's browser. The application is open to the public and available here: http://vfdemo.idvsolutions.com/marview/.
